As much as I love my black-and-grey uniform of late, sometimes a girl just needs a good red jacket. Red is such a fantastic power color, and topping a neutral outfit with this piece is the perfect way to turn the energy up a notch. The cut of the coat is fairly boxy, so I’ve been leaving it open over something with a feminine silhouette, like this fit-and-flare dress. And why not go matchy-matchy with the lips for an extra pop of color?
In other news, I’m now in full swing preparing to attend New York Fashion Week next month. When I think about the trip, I’m simultaneous exhilarated and terrified (yep, I’m quaking in my booties over here). Even though it feels like I’ve been blogging for ages, this blog is still fairly new and small, and NYFW is a pretty big step. I have no idea if I’ll be able to see any shows, but I do know I have to try.
So much of last year was about being honest with myself about my dreams and what I’m willing to do to achieve them, and I want this hear to be the same. I’ve wanted to go to fashion week for as long as I can remember, and with my LA experience under my belt, it feels like now or never. Keep your fingers crossed for me, wouldya?

So, here we are. Here’s the part where I say something about how fast this year has gone by, and how many things have happened, and how incredible it’s been to hear feedback from people who have been reading my blog. But I don’t think there’s a way I can adequately express my thanks and tell you how much it means to me that you’re here. And I fancy myself a writer, so that’s just embarrassing.
This year has seen so much- an utter career shift, exciting adventures, personal challenges, and so much growth and discovery. You’ve traveled with me twice to Los Angeles, first for BeautyCon and then again for the whirlwind of LA Fashion Week. You’ve hung out with me on rooftops, you’ve checked out art exhibit openings, and you’ve had more than your fair share of wine in Napa (and another glass, and another glass, and another). One Gatsby party is never enough, so you came on over for my own version. You’ve also gotten to know my family, seen me without makeup, and peek into what life is like when I put fashion on pause.
2013 has certainly been a trip. It’s been the most tumultuous year that I can remember, but all that change felt so necessary. Now it’s time to work out the kinks. I’m not sure what 2014 will bring, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one.
So, again, thank you. Thank you for reading and for being here. Tonight, I’ll be raising a glass to you. Happy New Year!
And of course, I could never have done this without the man behind the camera. I love you.

I honestly can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve already. As I had a feeling it would, this month has passed in an absolute blur of holiday celebrations. I checked off almost everything on my list! I have a bit of a reputation for going overboard with the holiday cheer, and this year was certainly no exception. Even after most of my shopping and crafting was done, I couldn’t resist heading down the hill to explore Sephora. I’m used to walking the aisles to find little things for myself, but it was such a fun experience going in gifting mode. So what if I picked up a new shade of nail polish along the way? Collateral damage, my friends.
Even though most of my friends are taking advantage of the season to bust out their brightest reds and sparkliest golds, for some reason I’m still in black-and-grey mode. It’s just such an easy palette to mix and match, and I love the drama of pairing super-bright lips with a monochromatic outfit. But hey- at least I’m mixing some patterns, right? There is paisley happening up in here!
This vest marks #7 in my puffer vest collection. I blame my vest obsession on my dad, who is rarely seen without his series of red vests. Seriously- when he was interviewed on national TV for his business, he was wearing a puffy vest. Gotta love it. My version fits a little closer to the body, and the polka dots add a splash of playfulness. Go grey or go bright- you’ve got to have a vest this time of year.
