Just as I recently spoke about adding more color into my wardrobe, I’m now craving it in other areas of my life, especially our apartment. It’s easy to fall into a design rut with any living space, but studios and similar small spaces are particularly prone to inertia. Efficiency often wins out over aesthetics, but when living in a small space it’s even more essential to make it beautiful and livable. After all, it’s not like you can simply into the next room for a change of pace.
Fortunately, many of the most beautiful design solutions are also the most effective at simplifying a space. Shelving is a logical and beautiful way to display your possessions, but it also has a handy knack for getting that giant pile of magazines off that chair in the corner (you know you’re guilty of it too!). Add in a pop of color to those functional pieces, and you just transformed a room from a utilitarian space to something truly inspiring and, well…. homey.
I like to pile on neutrals before adding in a pop of color, as in the top right photo featuring the dove grey couch and colorful throw pillows. It can be tempting to bring on the color with abandon, but it really is amazing how some restrained, well-placed pops of color can make a serious impact.
Here are my favorite small-space picks for fall. From cozy, happy rugs to clever shelving solutions, try one (or a few!) to liven up your space.
