It’s pretty amazing that Christmas is less than a day away now. This December has truly flown by, despite my best attempts to draw it out by watching every Christmas movie ever created and indulging in every holiday treat ever created (times ten for brie). I’m sad to see it go, but I know it’ll be back again before I know it, much like Frosty the Snowman. Keep the faith!
one. This is what happens when you take a gingerbread house competition very, very seriously. Google “Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water” and you’ll see what I mean. And yes, those are indeed Swedish Fish jumping out of the frosting waterfall.
two. I’m not sure about you, but I never get tired of pictures of puppies. Never.
three. It’s official; Psy is everywhere, even on your feet. I will add a disclamer that these are not my socks. You know how I love shorts and tights together more than anyone? Apparently some feel that way about Gangam Style.
four. I was patting myself on the back for remembering to buy wrapping paper before it sold out, but then I realized that I neglected to buy bows. I had to improvise with this little bow made from strips of leftover wrapping paper. I tell ya, every time I feel like a real grownup…
five. These trees are a serious ten on my Christmas light rating scale. Well done, Levi Plaza. Well done.
Gap sweater (circa 2003, similar here), Target tank top, Express jeans (last seen here), Spyder vest, Sam Edelman “Petty” booties, Marc by Marc Jacobs fingerless gloves (similar here- $6!), Marc by Marc Jacobs watch, Wirenamemike custom bracelet (see my gold version here), mystery hat
You know it’s going to be a good day when your husband says that your outfit looks like a hipster Halloween costume. Although I was monetarily offended at the “costume” portion of his remark, I reminded myself that he once referred to my gorgeous Via Spiga nubuck heels as “those weird shoe thingies.” So there. And although many consider “hipster” to be a slur, I’m in the camp that considers it to be a harmless love of whiny music, skinny jeans, and a few too many striped sweaters. It could be worse!
I’ll fully admit that this outfit was a bit of a departure for me, since I rarely go for monochromatic looks and usually favor cheery colors and patterns. I dressed like this more often back in college, when Anti-Flag was on constant iPod rotation and I fancied myself a bit of a badass. But it was a badass kind of day, and who am I to deny my own impulses? After all, to deny our own impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human.
Anyone who caught that movie quote without Googling it is now on my awesome list, by the way.
Finally, those are indeed my coveted Sam Edelman “Petty” booties on my feet! They were an early Christmas present, and I’m quite pleased with them. Full review/styling guide post to come!
With last night marking the series finale of my beloved Gossip Girl, I wanted to pay tribute to the show that launched much of my fascination with fashion. Despite its controversial moments (OMFG ad campagin! Teenagers having sex! Drugs and murder! People coming back from the dead!), the show has withstood the test of pop culture and time, and I’m sad to see it go. I’ve written before about how its fashion has inspired me, and I know it will continue to do so even post-syndication.
Here are three of my favorite looks from the show, with Polyvore collages to match. Enjoy!
It’s no secret that Serena is my favorite character on the show, and Blake Lively is one of my top fashion icons. I love the clean simplicity of this look above, especially when accented with plaid pants (they’re not just for Halloween anymore!). They keep the look from being too plain or stuffy and add just the right amount of fun.
Gossip Girl Style – Prep School Brights
How can I write about Gossip Girl fashion without delving back into its school uniform roots? I love how the show transformed from high school drama-fest through graduation and into stylish adulthood. These girls take classic prep school style and add some major twists with serious pops of color and can’t-miss argyle socks.
You wouldn’t think I would endorse the wearing of shoulder pads outside of 80’s night, but this snazzy blazer defies fashion logic. I love sequins for daytime, and this ensemble is eye-catching without being overly flashy. Anchor it with sensible yet stylish flats!
What are your favorite Gossip Girl fashion moments?
