Giants Night Game: Vintage Flannel, Sweater Tights, Moto Boots

San Francisco Giants played at AT&T Park. I wore H&M scarf, vintage flannel shirt, Express shorts, H&M tights, Vince Camuto Boots

It’s a San Francisco classic- a Giants game at AT&T Park while the sun sets. Jim and I watched the Giants decimate the Padres last Friday (sorry, San Diegans!) while I marveled at the twinkling, fog-clouded lights of the Oakland harbor across the bay. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, this stadium creates a kind of magic with its sweeping views and salty sea air. Add in the availability of garlic fries and vegan hotdogs, and you can turn even the most artsy-fartsy, what-the-hell-is-a-foul-ball girl like me into a baseball fan.

I couldn’t bring myself to get decked out in Giants black and orange (a color combination that I reserve solely for the week of Halloween), but I created my own hometown homage of print-on-print in warm fall colors. Hey, there’s technically orange and black in there!

This vintage flannel has been a wardrobe staple ever since I dug it out of a Goodwill bargain bin during my freshman year of college, and I love dressing it up for night. I added a buttery-soft scarf and cozy oxblood sweater tights to add more pattern and texture (and theoretically warmth). I’ve been living in shorts with tights, a look that I previously disdained but now love for their simultaneous modest functionality and leg-revealing abilities.

Oh, and the boots? Yep, there’s the same Vince Camuto Winchell boots I’ve been talking about incessantly. They’re finally here! More on them during my upcoming Vintage Fashion Expo post.

The best part of wearing a fabulously fashionable scarf? You can turn it into a fabulously fashionable blanket when you forget that the temperature drops twenty degrees after the sun sets. Since clearly, I will never learn that it gets cold around here.

Casual Thursday: Olive blazer, boyfriend jeans, basic tee, Tecate

Last night, I joined my good friend Sabrina of The Perils of Urban Courtship in the heart of Nob Hill for some wine, cookies, and preparation for her gig as a dating blogger/event leader. In exchange for some styling tips and a makeup application (not that she needed it!), she snapped some photos of my lazy Thursday ensemble.

I plan to chronicle my search for the perfect weekend jeans in a future post, but for now I’ll just say that after trying dozens of jeans at a variety of price levels, I came back to Gap. Yes, the same Gap that dressed you in khakis and white crew-neck t-shirts when you were in middle school (or dressed you up in their love about a decade ago). I’ve been living in these boyfriend jeans ever since I snagged them for 30% off (yeah Labor Day sale!).

I can’t take credit for finding the jacket, since a wardrobe stylist introduced me to it on a recent photo shoot with photographer Faran Najafi of She styled it in a super-edgy, rocker-chick way, but I love how it can be interpreted as an everyday piece. Here’s the result of that photoshoot, by the way. Hard to believe it’s the same jacket!

I can’t pull off that sort of look every day, but I love that the jacket works with looks ranging from high fashion all the way to downright casual. The highly tailored fit balances my loose-fitting t-shirt and the jeans to keep it from veering into I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-couldn’t-be-bothered territory. I’m pretty sure that look only works on Blake Lively and the Olsen twins.

This face happened after a passerby walked past on her cell phone and loudly announced, “Hang on, some dumb girls are taking pictures and I have to go around them.” And a lovely day to you as well, madam!

Sabrina and I parted ways when it was time for her to head to her San Francisco singles event. On my end, I left for a black-tie soiree in which I drank the finest champagne while hob-nobbing with the who’s who of San Francisco.

And by that, I mean I met some friends in the Mission at Delerium to drink $2 Tecate and stuff myself with garlic noodles and pupusas from a street cart.

Braving the Bars: Goodwill Sheath, Guitar Watch, Buckled Boots

Last Friday night, a few of my friends and I gathered for wine, conversation, and my grand failed attempt at crock pot red beans & rice. You know you have true friends when they hide their grimaces behind a smile and choke down a bowl of what’s essentially well-seasoned Playdoh. I’ll leave any advice about the culinary arts to the fabulous Angela at OhSheGlows and stick to fashion, yes?

After a glass of wine, I predictably hauled out my train case of makeup to thrust upon my unsuspecting friends. After every member of our party was wearing the same smoky eye and bold lip color (hey, why mess with what works?), we were ready for our journey into the night.

To venture out to the bars, I chose a grey-on-black ensemble that I knew would stand up to potential spilled mojitos and sticky bar seats. The tunic was new (to me), as I had snapped it up earlier in the afternoon. I always swing by my neighborhood Goodwill on Fridays to check out the selection, and rarely have I been disappointed. Trust me, you haven’t been to a Goodwill until you’ve been to the Goodwill in Lower Pacific Heights. Think about the people who live in Pacific Heights (if you have no idea what I’m talking about, this graphic from The Bold Italic says it well), and then think about the things they give away. Yep.

I was in a dress-like-you-live-in-SoHo mood, so I stuck with a monochromatic theme, adding black opaque tights and my trusty buckle boots that take me everywhere.

I have a hard time leaving a simple outfit alone, so I added my beloved Marc by Marc Jacobs guitar watch and my favorite cross-body chain bag. My best friend from college converted me to the wonders of cross-body bags for nights out, and I haven’t burdened my husband’s pockets with my belongings since.

And a girl really shouldn’t have a fun night out without a pair of dangly earrings. I rarely think of jewelry when I’m putting an outfit together, but these earrings are instant fun in plastic form. And yes, I’m aware that I have an equilateral triangle of moles on my face.

The night ended with a bag of Goldfish crackers, which is pretty much an automatic win. I smell (taste?) a tradition in the making.
