DUO #MyCity: Jane on Fillmore

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably notice that I seem to repost the same photograph of the same latte on the same graphic black-and-white background. Seriously, Sarah- let’s mix it up a little, eh? But believe it or not, the photos aren’t my love for repetition showing up; they’re evidence of my enduring love for Jane and its unparalleled lattes.

Jane’s that fabulous friend you know who magically procures invitations to stylish parties while simultaneously rocking the edgy-downtown-cool look that only Alexa Chung can achieve. Jane is one part brunch in Paris, one part rock concert at Cafe du Nord, and all parts really tasty brunch food. Plus, it’s a 5-minute walk from my house, so it also enables my laziness.

So, Jane was the first place I thought of when considering places to show off fabulous San Francisco for my styling project with DUO Boots. Since I usually visit while still waking up on a lazy Sunday, I wore my closest-thing-to-civilized-pajamas uniform: flowy tunic, stretchy pants, and comfy-polished boots. And the day was simply too spring-y to stick to monochromatic standards, so I added the brightest accessory I own. I know- WHOA.

If you go (and you must- go buy a plane ticket now if you don’t live here!), I recommend the egg sandwich with its magic savory-sweet tomato chutney, a birdseed bran muffin, and a perfect, foamy, resplendent latte.

Stay tuned to see more photos from my collaboration with DUO (alley in the Mission! Orange-painted transportation structure that’s slightly famous!). And see all the looks from fabulous bloggers around the globe at DUO #MyCity.

Brick House

layered plaid shirt, plaid shirt under dress, layer style, Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC, Maison Scotch shirt, Rag & Bone Newbury boots

Shirt: Maison Scotch. Dress: Xhiliration (again here). Boots: Rag & Bone. Bag: Rebecca Minkoff. Jewelry: Marc by Marc Jacobs. Lips: bareMinerals Moxie in Amped.

What’s that, you say? You now have a fabulous song stuck in your head and are never going to forgive me? Well, I do apologize (but clearly not enough, since I’m keeping this post title as is).

If you’re ever in San Francisco, I highly recommend walking up and down Jackson and Pacific in Pacific Heights. So many different parts of San Francisco call to me, but there’s just something about that stretch that makes me so happy. The houses are gorgeous, like this brick baby in our photos, and the view of the bay from Jackson and Broadway is a sight to behold. Whenever I’m getting caught up in something silly, all it takes is that view to bring me back to center.

I’ve worn this checked shirt six ways from Sunday (don’t believe me? go here and here), but I had yet to layer it under a dress. Now I think I’m hooked. I hate wearing jackets over dresses with lovely details, which is why most of my clothing is 3/4-sleeved. Layering a punchy shirt under is simply the perfect solution. Why didn’t I think of this before? That’s right- I used to associate layers button-downs with the preppy horror that was 90’s teen movies. Time for a new direction.

I Left My Heart in San Francisco

layered vest, leggings and tunic, H&M crochet tunic, San Francisco necklace, California necklace, layered necklace

Tunic: H&M. Vest: Gap (again here). Boots: Sam Edelman. CA Necklace: Unpossible Cuts.

Well, I may be wearing my heart on my chest instead of my sleeve, but I’m certainly showing you where my love lies via layered necklaces. I found my California necklace when visiting the fantastically odd craft fair that I mentioned in my holiday post. The fair is such a blast, even if you don’t purchase anything, which is pretty much impossible if you love unique, locally-made jewelry like I do.

This was the first year that I stopped by Unpossible Cuts and chatted with the friendly gentlemen who was manning the booth. I can at least claim that I stopped for selfless reasons- I was on the hunt for a gift for Allyson, and I spotted a Death Star wood-cut necklace. (She, in full BFF ESP, gave me the top necklace in the photo below). But while I was getting ready to check out, I spied my perfect necklace match in its full “I LOVE SAN FRANCISCO SO MUCH” glory. It’s been on heavy rotation ever since.

So, we arrive at my reasoning for my corny post title! Even though it’s a cliche, my heart really is here. A piece of it will always live back in Minnesota, just as pieces of it belong in Colorado Springs, Chicago, and India. It’s so crazy to think about all the places I’ve lived and loved, even though my list is certainly shorter than many. So, it feels fitting that I’ve come full circle back to the place I was born.

Now, to dispel this sappy mood, please sing with me. I left my heaaaaaaart…. in Saaaaaaan Franciiiiiiiiscooooo…

🙂
